Accutane, Acne, Teens and Depression? Is there any truth to it?

This is some info for parents of teenage children on a recent study into the effect of accutane and depression or suicidal thoughts in teens.  Accutane is one of the more severe acne treatments that work and really should be used last.

Ultimately you should research carefully and discuss with your Doctor before your teenage has accutane as a acne treatment.  Accutane can be highly a highly effective acne treatment but there are a lot of side effects you need to understand before using,  (Especially pregnant women should not use accutane at all.)

Acne can be very tough on teenagers and self-esteem issues and can get them down.  You should of course keep an eye on your teenager and try to talk to them about any problems or feelings they have.  You need to allow them to say whatever they have to say without repercussions to them.  If only they knew how unimportant acne and looks are.  All of this is easier said than done.
